MANAGING parking wardens in Worcestershire is becoming more centralised in a bid to save money.

Wychavon District Council’s executive board has agreed to manage Bromsgrove’s eight parking wardens from January 2012, which should earn the council about £20,000 in fees.

Wychavon already manages Redditch’s parking wardens but has now also agreed to run its residents’ parking system, which will bring in another £5,000 in fees.

Under the deal, the district council will help Bromsgrove set up its civil parking enforcement system when it replaces the current system, which at the moment is enforced by the police.

Eight Bromsgrove District Council staff will transfer to Wychavon from January 1, and a police traffic warden will then transfer in the middle of 2013.

The executive board also agreed to start managing parking enforcement of Evesham Hospital, running patrols in the hospital car parks, which will bring in management fees of up to £8,000.

Coun Paul Middlebrough, council leader, said: “We will manage the enforcement for Bromsgrove, Redditch and Evesham Hospital.

“We’ll not be setting the charges and levels of fines but we’ll run the enforcement, which is the people who stick the tickets on the cars.”
