YOUNG people left in turmoil after a bereavement charity went to the wall have been offered help from another charity.

Guy’s Gift want former Worcestershire service users of Noah’s Ark Trust – which went into liquidation last week – to get in touch and let them know what help they need.

Charity service manager Stuart Potter said they also wanted to hear from people who could help Guy’s Gift provide services to people left without counselling.

The charity, based in Warwickshire, has now set up a phoneline and an email address specifically covering the county to offer advice and to gauge need.

Longer term, the charity wants to offer community-based bereavement services in Worcestershire.

“This is not us stepping in until someone else comes along,” said Mr Potter.

“What we really want to do is set up a separate charity.

“It won’t happen overnight, but we set up the organisation in Warwickshire from zero and we can do the same here.”

The charity already has funding and runs “a tight budget” with a three-year funding grant recently secured from the National Lottery.

Mr Potter also assured existing users the charity would not be jeopardising its commitment to them by extending help into Worcestershire.

“We are deeply saddened by the plight of children formerly supported by Noah’s Ark Trust.

“As a neighbouring charity we feel we can offer support and are inviting those directly affected to make contact with us.

“As Worcestershire people we have direct experience and know how much this service is needed in the community.”

Guy’s Gift works on referrals from health workers, social workers, and teachers among others and is confident of quickly building links in Worcestershire.

Susan Smith, fund-raising manager, said: “We have contacts in Worcestershire who we can work with and are trying to ensure continuity of support.

“Those families and vulnerable people are going through another bereavement now with the loss of this support and we know can help, so we’ve decided to step in.”
