AMERICAN import Sherrad Prezzie-Blue believes Worcester Wolves have what it takes to reach the British Basketball League play-offs.

The University of Worcester-based side start their championship campaign on Friday night with a long trek north of the border to Glasgow Rocks.

Having missed out on a spot in the top eight last term, new boy Prezzie-Blue has been impressed with what he has seen at Wolves.

Paul James’ side have won two and lost one in the BBL Trophy this term and they head to Scotland on the back of a stunning 96-85 success at Plymouth Raiders on Sunday.

“We can definitely make the play-offs,” the 25-year-old guard said. “The guys are now starting to gel.”

But Prezzie-Blue knows Wolves face a tough start to the campaign with the trip to Glasgow.

The Rocks won all three of their encounters with Worcester last season and the former Worthing Thunder player is keen to help put the record straight.

“Glasgow is always a tough place to go,” he said. “They tend to have a strong team, but if we can execute our game-plan we can come away with the right result.

“Coach James has got us all working hard. Yesterday we did weights for an hour in the morning, an hour’s shoot around in the afternoon before a two-hour session in the evening.

“But that’s good and you can see by the team that has been constructed that there is plenty of talent.”

Having started playing in England with Northampton in the English League Division Two, Prezzie-Blue is one of seven new faces with Worcester this term and the Connecticut-born player has been helping his compatriots Richie Gordon and Tommy Freeman settle in.

The young duo joined the club straight from university in the States and, having gone through that experience himself, Prezzie-Blue is more than happy to help.

“Life at Wolves is great, they back their players 100 per cent,” he said. “I have always been a fan of coach James so to get the chance to play for him is fantastic.

“I’m with Tommy and Richie all the time and they are adjusting well to coming from the States to playing professional basketball.

“I know what they are going through and I think for them to have someone who has been through that transition and can relate to it is good.”

Meanwhile, Gordon has been named in the BBL Team of the Week bench section following his 22-point and 10 rebounds display at Plymouth on Sunday.
