CHILDREN recreated the splendour of the 17th century when they visited the Commandery over the weekend. As part of the Big Draw 2011, children who visited the historic museum in Sidbury were asked to decorate the Great Hall as it would have looked in 1607 when wealthy clothier Robert Wilde lived at the house. They also created a banquet, including plates, glasses and food from the era, as listed in an inventory, and developed their own menu. Pupils from Worcester’s St Barnabas Primary School also attended the event.
Sarah Bourne, events and visitor services officer at the Commandery, said: “It’s going very well, very positive. It’s fun and it’s silly but it’s quite informative. There are a lot of images of what stuff would have looked like. Because the hall is empty we want them to furnish it through their drawings.”
