AFTER 30 years of helping Worcester’s women with their most intimate fashion choices, Chris Grinnell is retiring happy.

Mrs Grinnell, manager at La Senza in The Shambles, is retiring on Saturday from the place she has worked since its days as Contessa.

During that time she has fitted women of all ages for the right bra, including generations of the same family.

“I love meeting people, talking to people and helping people,” she said.

“You get to speak to anyone and everyone and it’s nice to see people remember you and come back for you.

“A lady came in who’s 72 and she said ‘Oh, you’re still here – I’d like you to measure me’.

“Another lady was pregnant when we measured her first and then she brought her daughter back to be measured by us.”

But while she enjoys the job, Mrs Grinnell, of Fernhill Heath, will have more than enough to occupy her retirement and is looking forward to spending more time with her family – five grandchildren and two children – and indulging her passion for her motorbike.

Mrs Grinnell, aged 60, first started work at Contessa after her friend backed out of a job interview and passed up the opportunity to Mrs Grinnell.

She said: “She didn’t want it, so I tried it and got it on Bonfire Night.

“I have enjoyed it. I started as part-time and I’ve been manager for 20 years.”

The store became La Senza four years ago and underwent quite a change. Mrs Grinnell said: “The products have changed.

“But we did not have much of a change of staff, quite a lot of us stayed on.

“We still look to treat our customers well, we try to give them the red carpet treatment.”

• La Senza has organised a night out on Friday, November 11, at Rainbow Hill Ex-Servicemen’s Club to raise money for Breast Cancer.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for children and are available in-store.
