THE President welcomed 25 members and three visitors to the October meeting.

The Christmas meeting will again be held at The Firs and members were asked to make their choice of menu.

An invitation had been received from Salwarpe WI to their fund raising event.

Notice of the Christmas shopping trip to Chester was announced.

Jenny Marsh gave a report on the Hanbury Hall Golden Anniversary weekend.

Mary Gray gave the report on the Denman visit when 16 members attended and Jenny Marsh was thanked for all her work in organising this.

It was proposed to re-invent the sewing group to a craft group where all different crafts would be welcome.

The next meeting of the craft group is on November 1, at Jean Westwood’s home at 2pm.

The bridge group meets at the home of Ann Randall every Wednesday afternoon.

The last skittles match played was lost, so better luck for the next match on November 4.

The forthcoming group meeting was discussed and refreshments arranged. Help was requested for arranging chairs/tables etc.

The November AGM was mentioned and nominations requested for the committee.

The president then welcomed the speaker, the Rev Peter Holtzapfel, whose talk was entitled Poetic Utterances.

Peter interspersed his poems with some hilarious jokes, some of which were dramatically acted out, resulting in much mopping of eyes from the tears of laughter.

The vote of thanks was given by Jean Brettell who remarked on the Peter’s wicked sense of humour, thanked him for an hilarious afternoon and hoped that he would return.

The raffle was won by Sheila Preston. The competition was won by Mary Gray with her poem of Autumn.
