AT the September meeting, members and guests of the monthly Greek interest club enjoyed Madalena, a classic blackand- white film set on the small Cycladic island of Antiparos in the late 1950s; very much in the genre of romantic, music-filled, lighthearted films of that time both in Greece and Europe in general.

Madalena featured Aliki Vouyiouklaki, a much-loved figure in Greek cinema, best friend Jenny Karezi and Dimitris Papamichail.

The singing and acting transported everyone back to the Sixties when Greek open air cinema was popular in the cooling evening air.

The monthly raffle was won by John Proctor.

The next meeting of the club is on Thursday, October 27, when Lucas Ball will present Musical Modes in Ancient Greece, which promises to be a highly interesting and informative discussion, together with keyboard demonstration of the origins of musical mode terms and sounds by reference to Greek philosophers including Aristotle and Plato.

Anyone wishing to come along will be made most welcome.
