WORCESTER Wolves director of basketball Paul James is determined to keep his side’s winning run going despite tomorrow night’s British Basketball League Trophy match at Guildford Heat (7pm) being a dead-rubber.

The University of Worcester-based side head to James’ former club having won their last two games — both away from home.

The 96-85 trophy success at Plymouth Raiders, who qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament after their 87-83 victory over Heat on Saturday, was followed by a 78-73 win at Glasgow Rocks in the Wolves’ championship curtain-raiser.

“Winning is a habit and we have to keep that going,” James said. “It doesn’t matter that this is a dead-rubber, to us it is another chance to get a win.

“It is always nice to get a few wins on the road and to see us put away the majority of the scoring opportunities we have been creating is very pleasing.”

Wolves should fancy their chances at Guildford, not just because they have already beaten them at home in their opening match of season, but the Heat have lost all five games this term.

However, James insists his former employers are a better team than their record suggests.

“All Guildford’s games have been pretty close,” the Wolves chief pointed out. “They have a talented line-up and are a dangerous team.

“Their starting five is a match for anyone in the BBL, they just haven’t hit their straps yet.”

James, meanwhile, has praised his captain Callum Jones. The guard has been able to focus on his basketball this term having completed his masters degree last year.

“Callum scored a tremendous 16 points at Glasgow,” the Wolves boss said. “He’s been playing really well.”
