TWO years ago there was no treat for Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round, just a cruel trick.

With Halloween once again around the corner, Steve Burr and his troops will hope Harriers do not suffer any nasty surprises when they welcome Blue Square Bet North high-fliers Corby Town to their Aggborough lair tomorrow (3pm).

For the past two seasons Harriers have crashed out of the world’s most famous domestic cup competition at the first hurdle, a 2-0 home defeat to Blue Square Bet Premier rivals York City last season followed a 3-1 replay defeat at a then-lower graded Fleetwood Town.

While Burr’s side are going through a sticky time on the pitch — they have only won two of their six outings in October — the injury crisis that has left the Harriers boss working with a skeleton squad is easing.

Centre-half Luke Jones (calf) and winger Dave Hankin (ankle) are back in contention for the visit of the Steelmen, while right-back Lee Vaughan and midfielder Kyle Storer have completed their bans. Although skipper Mike Williams (hip) and Jack Byrne (ill) are unlikely to feature, on-loan midfielder Dave Bird has been given permission to play by his parent club Cheltenham.

Burr will not be taking their opponents from the level below lightly.

“Corby are a side who have been knocking on the door of the play-offs for the last few seasons in the Conference North,” the Harriers boss said.

“They’re a decent side with several lads with experience in the Conference Premier and we’ve got to respect them. We want a good run in the FA Cup, the club’s not had one for a while and it would be great if we could start it all again.

“When you think of Harriers’ history in this competition, playing Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham and Birmingham City, there’s some great memories.

“We’d love to give the fans some more like that but we’ve got to concentrate on winning this game and not look too far ahead.”

The draw for the first round will be shown live on Sunday, 1.30pm, on ITV1.
