DANNY Lewis will be back playing football next season — according to the Kidderminster Harriers keeper’s knee specialist Nadim Aslam.

The Aggborough shot-stopper underwent surgery on his anterior cruicate ligament (ACL) injury last weekend and the man who conducted the procedure is confident the 29-year-old will make a good recovery.

“He is out for the season,” said Aslam, who is the Consultant Sports Knee Surgeon at the Bone and Joint Clinic, Spire South Bank Hospital. “But we are optimistic about his future.

“Our club specialist sports physiotherapy team will aim to get him ready for pre-season training.”

The former Redditch United keeper had cemented his place as Steve Burr’s number one before suffering the injury in training at the start of the month.

Lewis had to have a reconstruction of the ACL and the long road back to full fitness begins now.

“Rehabilitation of the ACL reconstruction is critical and it starts in the recovery room immediately after surgery,” Aslam explained.

“He will regain his flexibility, strength and fitness and ultimately will be back playing football in the new season.”

Twenty-year-old Dean Lyness has been impressing for the Harriers in Lewis’ absence, but Aggborough chief Burr is keen to bring in another keeper to provide back-up for the former Birmingham City and Hearts shot-stopper.
