TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular young musician from Worcester who was killed in a car crash.

Justine Miskimmin died when her blue Peugeot 206 left the A44 Evesham Road, close to the Berkeley Arms pub at Egdon, and hit a tree at about 5.50am on Sunday.

The 22-year-old of Wyld’s Lane, Worcester, worked as a deputy manager for Tesco and was also a drummer with local rock band, Rubber Nuns.

Yesterday, in a statement released by police, her family paid tribute to “a lovely, affectionate girl” who was “dearly loved” by all her family and friends.

They said: “She was a party animal who was very popular, and a good friend to all who knew her. She loved music and was a brilliant drummer, being part of a local band.

“She was sporty, even daring, with a great sense of fun. Words cannot describe how we feel at the loss of our beloved Justine and we cannot imagine how we will go on without her.”

Brian Maher, a close family friend and owner of the Marr’s Bar in Pierpoint Street – where Miss Miskimmin’s band often performed – described her as “clever, witty and simply a beautiful person” who “always had a smile on her face and much love in her heart”.

He said: “I am personally devastated at the loss of such a genuinely lovely girl and the world is now a darker place without her in it.

“My love goes out to her very proud parents John and Anna, and her older brother John. I am proud to say Justine was a good friend of mine.”

A spokesman for Tesco said she would be sorely missed by her colleagues.

They said: “Justine was an extremely popular team member who was well liked by everyone who worked with her. She will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.”

Dozens of floral tributes have been left by mourners at the scene of the crash and nearly 200 messages of condolence have been posted on Facebook, including some from her former bandmates, the Rubber Nuns.

Sean Devlin, headteacher at Miss Miskimmin’s former school, Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, described her as a “wonderful” student and said her family were in their prayers at this difficult time.

Michael Kitcatt, principal at Worcester Sixth Form College, where Miss Miskimmin studied after school, said: “We are devasted that such a talented young life has been cut short.”

Police are investigating the circumstances around the crash but do not believe there were any other cars involved.

PC Ian Sweeney said: “This is a very sad incident in which a young woman has lost her life.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and who have not yet spoken to police.”
