A sculptor has won a prestigious commission to create a wooden angel for the National Trust.

Ed Elliott, who specialises in lifesize mystical figures, has been asked by Britain’s biggest landowner to provide the piece for an exhibition at the Mottisfont estate in Hampshire this month.

He was one of nine successful artists who won £250 and had materials supplied to create a figure for the Angels exhibition this winter.

His work has also been on display at Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean as part of its Halloween celebrations.

Mr Elliott grew up in Malvern and studied at the Chase Technology College before completing a foundation course at the University of Gloucestershire and an honours degree in fine art at Cardiff School of Art and Design.

He recently opened a new studio at Trumpet Corner, near Ledbury. “To be able to exhibit at one of these top-quality locations is great, but to be displaying at both is fantastic,” he said.
