A FUND-raising clay pigeon shoot held in memory of a man killed in a car crash has raised £2,500 for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The event was organised by the best friend of Richard Warr, who worked at Laylocks Garden Centre, Bromyard Road, Worcester, which is run by his family.

The 21-year-old was driving a Mazda pick-up truck that was in collision with a Seat Ibiza near Bayton, Herefordshire, on Friday, August 5.

Mr Warr, of Pencombe, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with head and chest injuries but he died soon after arrival.

Claire Barlow, aged 24, of Presteigne, Powys, Wales, who was driving the Seat, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Inquests into both deaths have been opened and adjourned.

Matthew Boulton, who was Mr Warr’s best friend, organised the shoot at Park Farm Shooting Ground, Ombersley, near Worcester, on Sunday, October 2, and a total of £2,452 was raised.

Mr Boulton said: “It was a cracking day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. About 300 people turned up to help us raise money, which was fantastic.

“Richard was my best friend. The air ambulance crew tried their best to get him to hospital but sadly they weren’t able to get him there in enough time to save him.”

Shortly after the accident, Mr Warr’s family released a statement which said: “Richard was a wonderful son, brother and friend to so many and we were all so very proud of him. He had an infectious smile and he was so full of character.”
