A HOMECOMING party and auction to raise funds for a charity that allowed a Worcester couple to spend the last six months at their baby’s bedside in hospital takes place next month.

As previously reported Jovie Wyse was born on Wednesday, May 4, with a rare and dangerous condition called congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, also known as Ondine Curse.

It affects the central nervous system and prevented Jovie from breathing when asleep.

As a result she spent her first two weeks at Worcestershire Royal Hospital before being moved to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Chris and Lorna Wyse were forced to give up their flat in Worcester city centre and spent the last six months staying at the Ronald McDonald House Charity – a “home from home” accommodation for parents who have children in the hospital.

Mr Wyse, aged 26, said: “Without the free accommodation provided by RMH Birmingham we would have struggled financially and physically to spend our time with Jovie in hospital.

“As the charity accepts no payment from the parents we decided very early on to do something extra special to raise money as a massive thank you for all the help they have given us. Not only has it been a bed for us to sleep in, but a home during the hardest part of our lives.”

The couple are hosting a welcome home party for their “little trooper” at the Marwood, in the Tything, Worcester, on Sunday, December 4. It will include a charity auction. The event starts at 5pm. Donations so far include spa vouchers, rugby and cricket tickets, signed sporting goods and a holiday in the south of France.
