KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Steve Burr hopes their mini-break from action will help them when they head to Hayes and Yeading tomorrow (3pm).

The Aggborough outfit were without a game last weekend after their shock FA Cup exit to lower-ranked Corby Town.

Although the enforced break came hot on the heels of their 2-0 success over Tamworth, Burr insisted they have used the time to help improve the squad’s fitness.

“It’s been a bit like a pre-season for us,” the Harriers boss said.

“We have been working on our fitness and did a few different things in training.

“But we are looking forward to getting back out there on Saturday.”

Burr hoped the break would allow skipper Mike Williams (hip) and midfielders Kyle Storer (fractured cheekbone) and Jack Byrne (gastroenteritis) to make the squad for the trip to the Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers.

But he admitted: “That has probably been the one downside of the break because they are not fit enough yet.

“Kyle is still very swollen and in pain. It would probably only take a slight knock and he would be in trouble, but hopefully he will be ready for next week.

“Jack is similar. He is back training now and I would think he is only a week or two away.

“But unfortunately Mike has had a bit of a setback in training with his hip and we are not quite sure how long he’ll be.”

Former Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie could be in line for his Harriers debut at Hayes after signing non-contract forms for the club.

But striker Luke Medley has gone out on loan to league rivals Lincoln City until January after failing to win a regular place.

Meanwhile, Harriers’ youth team bowed out of the FA Youth Cup in the second round after a narrow 1-0 defeat to League One outfit Carlisle United.
