A CAR was apparently deliberately set alight while parked outside its owners home.

Police are investigating the incident which happened outside the address in Golden Post, Hereford about 1am this morning.

The owner of the vehicle heard a large bang outside his flat and looked out through a window to see an unknown man run past and then saw that his car - a blue Volkswagen Passat - was on fire.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was started deliberately and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the fire, or anyone who knows why it may have been started.

Anyone who believes they may have information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 - the force's new non emergency telephone number - or 0300 333 3000.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
