DRIVERS will be warned about the dangers of speeding with a banner designed by a schoolboy.

Oliver Rushton, aged nine, of St Matthias CE Primary School in Malvern Link, won a competition to design the banner.

His artwork has been printed and will be displayed outside the school to encourage traffic to slow down.

The design a road safety banner competition was run by Droitwich firm Recognition Express Hereford and Worcester in partnership with national road safety charity Brake.

Oliver was presented with his banner and a Star Award for his work. Headteacher Claire Davies said: “We are keen to raise awareness about road safety among our pupils and this competition has been a great way to get them thinking about it.

“The children have made such a huge effort and we’re so proud of them.”

Paul Boeck, owner of Recognition Express Hereford and Worcester, said: “We hope that the competition has helped to communicate some important road safety messages and will encourage the children to stay safe.

“It was hard to choose one winner but we felt that Oliver’s banner would be a powerful reminder to passing traffic to slow down.”

There are 10 children under 19 killed or seriously hurt on foot or bicycles every day in the UK.
