A detached garage at a house near Flyford Flavell in Worcestershire was destroyed by fire.

A passerby raised the alarm at around 6pm yesterday (Monday, December 5) after noticing the fire in a large two-storey garage.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (H&WFRS) sent three fire engines from Worcester and one from Droitwich.

The aerial ladder platform from Worcester was also sent to the address in Old Hill, near Flyford Flavell.

Firefighters worked throughout the evening, using two hose reels, a covering jet supplemented by water from street mains and firefighting foam to put out the fire.

No one was injured but the garage was destroyed.

Watch Commander Carl Horsburgh said: “The brick and timber-clad garage was engulfed in flames as fire crews arrived, and it proved to be a fairly challenging fire to tackle.

“The structure had become unstable and so it wasn’t safe for firefighters to go inside the garage, but they used the height of the aerial ladder platform to good effect and the fire was brought under control by around 10.15pm.”

Crews returned to the home several times during the night. The road immediately next to the garage is expected to remain closed until the structure has been safely demolished.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
