A DRUNK man bent back his ex-girlfriend’s finger because he believed she was unfaithful to him and had worked as an escort.

William Cutler, aged 36, of Duke of Edinburgh Way, Malvern, admitted assault and criminal damage when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

The court was told how Cutler damaged a door belonging to Festival Housing and bent back his now ex-girlfriend’s little finger when he pushed his way into her flat during the incident on September 23.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said Cutler admitted the assault on a reckless basis on the day he was due to stand trial.

Miss Lovegrove said Cutler had been in a relationship for nine months with the victim, who had been out with friends celebrating one of their birthdays when the incident happened.

Miss Lovegrove said: “Within a minute of returning home she heard a loud knock.

"She said the defendant was drunk and asking her who she was with.

"He has pushed past her, causing her finger to bend backwards. He has carried on, walking into the house, and has been abusive to her friends and has then left.”

However, he returned later and shouted,“Get out of here! I’m going to rip you apart”, which was directed at a male in the house, Miss Lovegrove said.

He was also kicking at the door, which could not be opened because of the damage and had a large split, Miss Lovegrove said.

The victim complained of bruising to the little finger of her left hand.

Miss Lovegrove said: “In interview he said that as far as he was concerned they were still together.

“He saw her kissing someone through the window so banged on the door.

“He did admit kicking the front door because he was angry.

“She says that because of the incident she feels unsafe in her own home and on edge, expecting him to turn up at any time.”

Rebecca Connolly, defending, said: “He suspected his ex-partner was being unfaithful to him and discovered she had been an escort.

"This caused him distress.

“He is unable to deal with the end of relationships and control his emotions.

“He relies on alcohol to get him through. He does have a history of violent offending.”

Cutler, who already owes the court £2,846.97, was given a community order to include 12 months’ supervision and to take part in a low intensity alcohol programme and an integrated domestic violence abuse programme.

He was ordered to pay £300 costs because he only admitted the assault on the day he was due to stand trial.

They also imposed a 12-month restraining order that he does not contact, directly or indirectly, the victim.
