THE cause of a blaze that ripped through a vehicle storage shed in rural Worcestershire is being investigated by police.

Firefighters tackled flames gripping a corrugated metal outbuilding at Crumpton Hill, Storridge, near Malvern, at about 6.15am yesterday.

Five fire crews and a water carrier were sent and found a “fully developed” blaze inside the 20-metre barn.

The fire destroyed several cars, trailers and campervans stored inside the building.

Crews worked to save a nearby vehicle maintenance shed but were unable to save the vehicles, said Malvern green watch commander Keith Massam.

They battled the windy conditions and the lack of water sources at the rural location, using thermal imaging cameras to identify fire ‘hot-spots’.

Compressed gas cylinders also had to removed from near the blaze, but the fire was under control by 8am.

Nobody was hurt and several horses on the property were also unharmed.

Station Commander Phil Berry said crews had done “an excellent job” preventing the fire spreading.

Anybody with information on how the fire started is urged to call Detective Constable June Cartwright on the 101 West Mercia Police number.
