IF you fancy helping to tidy up an old cinema before its grand public re-opening then step right up.
The Regal Cinema, Evesham, is opening its doors for the first time since its closure in 2003.
The grand old dame at 41 Port Street, which opened in 1932, has been brought back to its former glory by owners Regal Cinema Evesham with the help of £150,000 of council taxpayers’ money.
The restoration has been backed by many townspeople who have chipped in to lend a hand with painting and decorating.
Now hardy volunteers are needed again on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 5pm so the cinema seats can be installed on Monday.
Emma Heathcote-James, cinema spokesman, said: “We need to dust, hoover and mop to clear the entire cinema so the seats and carpet can begin being installed on Monday morning.
“Please come along in work clothes as the cinema is very dirty and full of sawdust at the moment.
“Just turn up and there will be coffees a-plenty.”
The Regal, which is set to re-open on Saturday, January 21, is being billed as far more than just an ordinary cinema. It will feature a coffee shop and gallery, opening from 8am until late, with an evening wine bar. Film-goers will be able to watch from regular seats, or one of the boxes in the dress circle, with a customer bar on offer if they get thirsty.
Films will include everything from blockbusters to art house and independent and the Saturday morning kids Chum Club is returning with family screenings on Saturday afternoons.
The owners say they want to make the Regal an exciting community venue as a forum for comedy, music and other live performances together with keynote lectures, live sports feeds, fashion shows and an art gallery.
