A THIRD man has been arrested by police investigating the death of a man killed in an arson attack on his flat.

As reported briefly yesterday, the man, who was in his 20s, was was detained by police at a house in Rodborough Close, Warndon, yesterday morning, just a few hundred yards from the now burnt-out flat where Andrew Heath had lived in Chedworth Close.

A search was carried out at the address of the man and “a number of items” removed by police.

He is currently in custody at the city’s Castle Street police station where he was being questioned by police as the Worcester News went to press.

Mr Heath, aged 52, was found dead in his burning first-floor flat by firefighters at about 4am on Wednesday, December 14.

Neighbours living below had described hearing him banging on the ceiling during the blaze.

The arrest came just a day after police offered a £10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and successful conviction in connection with the death of Mr Heath.

Officers now have up to 96 hours to question their suspect, who is the third man to be detained.

Two other men were arrested and released last month –both are still considered suspects by the police.

Meanwhile, plans to televise the last known movements of Mr Heath for the BBC Crimewatch programme are still in place with camera crews wrapping up filming on location today.

The programme will go out to screens next Thursday.

DCI Paul Williamson said on Tuesday that he firmly believed “the public still hold the key and somebody has that vital piece of information that can unlock this case and leads us to Andrew’s killer.”

Anyone with any information about Mr Heath’s death is urged to call West Mercia Police on 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
