A SCHIZOPHRENIC stalker left pornographic magazines and a sex toy outside a woman’s home and told her “I love you”.

Jonathan Cartwright, aged 45, of Randwick Drive, Warndon, Worcester, admitted a course of conduct which amounted to harassment when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

The court was told how Cartwright harassed the woman between December 30 last year and January 30 this year after developing an interest in the 23-year-old.

He left presents for her with a friend of hers but on January 18 the victim called the police after she saw Cartwright loitering outside her home.

Samantha Webley, prosecuting, said: “He waited until she left the property and attempted to engage her in conversation. She was quite dismissive of him. He asked if he could walk with her. He told her he loved her and she told him to get lost.”

Police served him with a harassment warning at his home on January 22.

Initially the gifts were chocolate bars and CDs but on Monday she found a black rucksack on her doorstep containing a sex toy, pornographic magazines and a T-shirt. He also left bank and loan documents with his name on them.

Mrs Webley said: “He said voices in his head told him to do it and he had heard her saying “I want you, I love you” and asking for the items on the doorstep.”

Nick Roberts, defending, said Cartwright had “a troubled history” suffering from depression and schizophrenia since the age of 21 and had been heavily medicated for a considerable time.

Mr Roberts said as well as his mental health problems Cartwright also suffered back problems, a stomach ulcer and lived on his own.

He said: “He has become quite lonely. It would appear that the trigger to this was a change in his medication.

“He had been on a drug for 10 years or so but changed medication and was put on some different medication on a low dosage.

“There have been no threats. There has been no physical violence. He has left unwanted gifts and been in the vicinity of her flat.

“He would like to say he’s sorry for any alarm and distress he caused. They’re increasing the dosage of his medication.”

Magistrates issued a restraining order which says he is not to contact the victim directly or indirectly and is not to go within 50 metres of her home address.

He was fined £75 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
