YOUNGSTERS can encourage birds to thrive by taking part in a nestbox decorating event organised by a Worcestershire garden centre.

From Monday to Friday, February 13-17, visitors to Webbs, in Wychbold, near Droitwich, can decorate a wooden nestbox and then hang it in their garden.

The sessions run from 11am to 4pm and cost £4.99, which includes all materials and a £1 donation to the Greenfingers charity.

The activity at Webbs coincides with National Nestbox Week, which encourages people to put up nest boxes to help breeding birds and wildlife.

Executive chairman Ed Webb said: “The natural nest sites on which many of our bird species depend, such as holes in trees and buildings, are disappearing as gardens and woods are tidied and old houses are repaired. This is one way to ensure we are doing all we can to help our birds.”

Other activities on offer include a free trail through the centre’s riverside gardens and face painting.
