FIVE teenagers escaped without serious injury when the car they were travelling in overturned outside a business park near Evesham.

The driver of a VW Polo lost control of the car near Blackminster Business Park on Station Road, South Littleton around 8.10pm on Wednesday night and smashed into a number of large wooden flower barrels – one flying into a nearby shop – before coming to a stop on its roof.

The car also hit a telephone communication box but it is not known if phone lines in the area were affected.

The male driver and his four female passengers were taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. One was treated for head and leg injuries and the remaining four were treated for minor cuts and bruises.

The front wall and windows of the Interiors by Ali Foulds business were seriously damaged. Owner Ali Foulds said: “We are still open but everything’s rather a mess. The windows are smashed and the front wall has buckled.

“What happened is it hit the wooden barrel and it flew in. It was lucky we weren’t open.

“People fly over the level crossing. It is a dangerous road.” Paul Middleton, owner of Blackminster Business Park, heard the accident happen. He said: “I was here when it happened. It was like an empty artic lorry, I heard bang bang.

“I have seen it all on CCTV. The car came over the railway line with four girls in the car. He came straight down the road across the footpath and hit the flower barrel.

“The barrel flew into the front of the shop damaging the window and wall, pushing the wall in.

“If he hadn’t hit the flower barrels who knows where he would have ended up. They were all a bit shaken when they got out the car.”

Mr Middleton said cars often appear to be intentionally speeding over the railway line.

“They are launching themselves over the level crossing and then losing control of their vehicle.

“This will happen again.”
