A PASSION for sporting competition has landed a Pershore foster carer the chance to take her place in history.

Grandmother-of-10 Sue Turner, of Hunter Rise, could be spending the summer driving sporting VIPs around England’s capital after she was selected to be an offical steward for the London Olympics.

The super-fit 65-year-old, who is training to compete in four triathlons this year, has always enjoyed sport and said she was honoured to be selected as a Games Maker – one of 70,000 volunteers helping to make the London games happen.

The mother-of-four, who served in the Army and the Military Police, said: “I just thought I’d like to be involved. I’d like to see how everything works behind the scenes. It’s a fantastic honour.

“The Olympic Games will be fabulous – they will be good for the country and lifting the morale of people in the country.

“It will be like one great big family.”

Mrs Turner, who has fostered 86 children in the past 16 years, said she could not be part of the once-in-the-lifetime event were it not for the support of her husband, Arthur.

She will begin her training to become a volunteer driver on Saturday, February 18.
