THE wintry weather that struck on Saturday will be hanging around Worcestershire all week, say weather experts.
There should be no repeat of the half-an-inch of snow which fell on Saturday evening across lower parts of the county, but temperatures will steadily fall throughout the week from today, says weatherman Paul Damari.
He said there will be highs of 6C (43F) during the day but the mercury will start dropping away from Thursday, and after that the risk of more snowfall could increase if new weather fronts roll in from the Atlantic to the west.
“We had between half-an inch on the lower ground and up to two inches of snow on the higher ground,” said Mr Damari.
“But thankfully it didn’t freeze overnight so it turned into slushy snow. This week the cold weather will continue and I think we won’t see milder conditions for the next seven days at least.
“Things will get progressively colder with the cold north-east winds coming in from continental Europe.
“That cold air is going to push back across us, and we’ll have some frost overnight. I’m not looking for any snow from Monday to Thursday, but after that we’ll have to keep an eye on how the situation develops.
“If we get another front coming west from the Atlantic and it hits that colder continental air, then we could have a greater chance of snowfall.”
Despite the extensive covering of snow on Saturday evening, most had disappeared by Sunday lunchtime.
Main roads were mostly clear but drivers forced to take smaller roads and country lanes to work were faced with challenging conditions.
These proved too much for one driver after a car was seen overturned on the road near the March Hare pub in Broughton Hackett, near Worcester.
