A day in the life of the WN newsroom

BUSY: The Worcester News newsroom BUSY: The Worcester News newsroom

TODAY we’d like to let you in on a day in the life of the Worcester News newsroom.

Our reporters, newsdesk staff, sub-editors and other people here at Berrows House plan to update this article throughout the day with snippets of what’s going on to give you an insight into what will appear in the paper and online over the coming days, and how we go about it.

It might be a quiet day… but it might not. We simply don’t know yet.

Keep popping back for updates!

Come on guys, how you write about news isn't news! You'll be having award ceremonies for doing your job well sonn and reporting on them. You might be interested in your job but most of us aren't.

I'm looking at the live stats of how many people are viewing the panel right now. It seems you don't speak for everyone.
Thanks for your comment though.

Is 42 your IQ? You may not be interested, but I'm eagerly awaiting news of Murray's pork pies...
.
And who says most people aren't interested? You speak for yourself and leave the rest of us out of your opinions.

Perhaps you could show us someone - anyone putting the current frontpage on the site and show the staff at the same time how to do it. Still showing 26 January's front page

Perhaps you might consider buying the newspaper rather than expecting everything for free on the internet. Just a thought.

if a service is offered such as front page on the internet then it should be available. I no longer live in Worcester so am unable to buy copy of newspaper. Only log on to see what is happening at my former home town and you can keep your thought and any others to your self!

My priority is to get the actual news on the site and unfortunately that takes up the vast majority of my time. To be perfectly honest uploading the front and back images is much lower down on the priority list.
I have now disabled that section.

Nice to see the Bish is alive, well and still covering the courts. We used to have some great times, many moons ago. He had exemplarary shorthand, so when a key statement was made, that had to be reported 'spot-on' he was goof enough to share that with those of us whose shorthand was not as sharp. Cheers Bish.

That's a weird, quirky literal; goofy ought to read good. Another reason to trust the Bish when it comes to note-taking.

Given the fallout from the Leveson inquiry and the focus on the ethics of many of our national print media (I feel this has a way to go across all media), it was a sound move of WN to open its doors so to speak on line. Some of the language in the posts may be a tad hard to follow but I am sure WN would answer posts seeking more explanation. WN like other news media are recognising that we may not want or cannot buy a paper on a daily basis and that internet communication is growing exponentially. They have to adapt, they are after all a business as well as being a swervice. My OH says I am moulded to my laptop, so that may make me a saddo, but without local media like the WN and their competitors in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, life would be a dark place. WN is a vehicle for communication, not all good, but some of it, at times of emergency can be vital. Thumbs up from me.

Thanks for all your comments (good and bad). We hoped to give you an insight, through our live blog, into how the Worcester News is put together. I'm glad most people seemed to find our experiment interesting (in places, at least!).

Still waiting for pictures of Murray's pork pie stash though .... very disappointed not to see that.
What struck me was just how many people work for the WN, especially subs. I had visions of just one bloke with his tie askew and a pencil behind his ear.
My illusions are shattered.

I think my grass grew just a little bit yesterday. Interesting!

I think that would be very interesting, if it is true. It is far too cold for grass to grow at the moment.
