SWIMMERS of all ages and abilities are wanted for a charity effort.

Malvern St James Sports and Fitness Centre, in Barnards Green Road, is hosting British Heart Foundation’s Red for Heart swimathon on Friday, February 17 from 7am to 7pm. Volunteers will take turns to cover the equivalent of an Olympic marathon swim of 10,000 metres in 15-minute slots throughout the day. Organiser Simon Vaughan said: “Participants do not have to be MSJ members, everyone is welcome to take part.”

Clare Cassidy, fund-raising volunteer manager for the British Heart Foundation, said: “The BHF is really delighted that MSJ Sports and Fitness Centre has chosen to support our Red for Heart campaign again this year. We are very grateful to all of the MSJ staff for their support. We need people to raise funds for us so that we can lead the battle against heart and circulatory disease, the UK’s biggest killer.

The centre will also be running two family sessions from 10am to noon and 2-4pm, with 40 spaces available in each slot at £2 for adults and £1 for children. Call Simon Vaughan or Monica Greenwood at MSJ on 01684 584638 for information.
