PLANS to build 36 new homes in a Worcestershire village have been refused.
The application, submitted by Wychbold Developments, sought outline permission for the development of land to the rear of Sunnyhill House, Stoke Road, Wychbold.
But it was rejected by councillors on Wychavon District Council’s planning committee following a recommendation for refusal from officers.
Resident Paul Povey spoke against the application, saying it was “totally contrary” to the parish plan.
“It’s outside the development boundary and the developer will not be developing the land, but selling it on,” he said.
“The development is entirely unsuitable and undeliverable.”
Peter Frampton, agent for the developers, said the imposition of planning conditions could avoid refusal.
He said that arrangements had been suggested to amend the junction layout off the development, which was the basis of one of the reasons for the planning officer’s recommendation for refusal.
In their report, officers said the junction would lead to an “unacceptable increase in vehicle movements” and because of these movements, would be “prejudicial to highway safety” as the road carries a national speed limit and there is insufficient visibility.
They said the proposal should also be refused because it lies outside the development boundary and because no secure arrangements were in place to ensure some of the properties would be allocated as affordable housing or Section 106 contributions would be paid.
The proposal was unanimously refused in a committee vote.
