How we helped the homeless

SIX graduates from npower’s offices in Worcester gave something back to the community when they took part in a volunteering project at the city’s Maggs Day Centre.

Their task involved painting the inside of the building and some serious cleaning of the kitchen.

The team leader was 28-year-old Damien Kelly, who joined npower in September in the electric vehicle department.

He was joined by colleagues from across the business, including energy services, marketing, finance and customer services departments.

Mr Kelly said: “It was great to have us all working as a team and to be able to do things the Maggs staff just do not have the time to do; we wanted to be able to make ourselves useful and I hope that is what we achieved.”

Acting manager Mel Kirk said: “We cater for anyone who is homeless or socially isolated and we help between 50 and 60 people each week.

“Without the support of local people giving their time and donations, what is available would become so much more difficult to deliver.”

This was not the first time npower staff have offered their assistance, with a team serving meals before Christmas and others working on Maggs’ allotment in December.

Well done, this forgotten army of homeless need help. And they are on our streets in our City.
