A BOXING night helped raise cash for good causes.

Guests filled Lanes Bar, Bromyard Road, St John’s, Worcester, to watch fighters go head to head for the charity of their choice, as well as raise money for Worcester Snoezelen.

Top of the bill was the heavyweight clash between Worcester’s own Wayne ‘Feel the Pain’ Jones and the Droitwich-based Serbian Rade ‘the Impailer’ Duric.

It was 40-year-old Jones who came out on top after the fight was stopped in the third round.

Two other Worcester boxers were Rich ‘Rampage’ Istead, supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care, and Phill Savage, raising funds for the Ronald Mcdonald House.

They were up against Malvern’s Lewis ‘Kid Dynamite’ Vine, supporting Action for Children, and Bromsgrove fireman Steve Fox, fighting for the Paul Reed Memorial Fund, with Vine and Fox coming away the winners. Andy Davies, for Primrose Hospice, was the ref’s choice for boxer of the night after he outpointed Davie ‘Partyboy’ Webb, raising funds for Acorns, from Droitwich Spa. The 23-year-old, of Bromsgrove, said: “I’ve always loved boxing and when the chance came up to box for charity I snapped it up.

“I’ve lost over a stone in weight and feel so happy. Taking part in this amazing event has really been life changing and an experience I will never forget.”

Darren Hanlow, of Barnburner Promotions, who organised the night, said: “The atmosphere was electric and a fantastic reward for the months of training the boxers had endured.”

Barnburner Promotions will be staging Box for Charity II on May 26 at Lanes Bar.
