A GIANT ram lamb has weighed in at a massive 10.75kg (23.7lbs).

The ram lamb, born at Great Lodge Farm, Hanbury, near Droitwich, has been called ‘the Hulk’ because he is twice the size of a normal lamb, which is about 5kg.

Katie Brian said: “His mother has had lambs in the previous two years and they’ve been average size. I don’t quite know what happened with him.

“Needless to say there wasn’t any room in the ewe for any more.

“He was the only one she had and he’s by far the biggest lamb I’ve ever seen.”

The Brian family’s 350-acre mixed beef, sheep and arable farm has a flock of 400 ewes. It is run by Miss Brian’s parents David and Diane and son Martin, but their daughter takes a holiday from her job with the Beef and Sheep Levy Board to help them at lambing time.

Large though he may be, the Hulk is unlikely ever to be claimed “the greatest”. “We won’t be contacting the Guinness Book of Records,” said Miss Brian.

“We’re not that bothered about getting our name in a book.

When he’s old enough, the Hulk will go to market. We don’t breed sheep for pets here. You’ve got to be practical about it.”

A couple of years ago a lamb born in Somerset tipped the scales at 23lbs, but there are unconfirmed reports of lambs weighing 25lbs being born in Canada.
