A WORCESTERSHIRE man has been arrested in connection with the seizure of more than £8 million worth of cocaine by Border Force officers.

The class A drug was discovered in a lorry that arrived in Portsmouth roll on roll off ferry port at around 6.45pm on Wednesday, March 7 on a ferry from St Malo, in France.

It is estimated the drugs, weighing 85 kilos, could have had a potential value of approximately £8.5 million when cut and sold on the street.

The 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with the seizure and has been bailed until July 10.

Andy Lumb, Border Force assistant director at Portsmouth, said: “As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep class A drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.

“We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.”
