MEMBERS of Upton Young Farmers Club are preparing to take their fund-raising efforts to new heights when they tackle the daunting Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Help for Heroes.

They will be attempting to scale Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon – the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales respectively – in less than 24 hours on Saturday, April 21.

The club chooses a different charity to support each year, with recent beneficiaries including St Richard’s Hospice.

This year’s choice of forces charity Help for Heroes has a very personal connection for club member Vicky Gowenlock.

“I have a brother who has served out in Afghanistan twice now,” she said.

“He has recently come home but is still on immediate standby until March and could be called on without too much notice.”

The Upton Young Farmers team, which comprises Tom Goodwin, Ed Leake, Matt Tomkins, Nathan Tomkins, Rachel Gilder, James Steele, Harry Gilder, Tom Hunt, Aaron Hunt and Jo Fryman have been following individual training regimes as well as joining up for walks in the Malvern Hills.

They are hoping to raise at least £2,000 with the challenge and would be very keen to hear from any businesses who would like to sponsor them and help cover some of the costs.
