KIND-hearted garden centre staff helped brighten up the grounds at two Worcester hospices.

The team from Webbs, Wychbold, signed up for a day-long county-wide five hospices mission with a challenge to brighten up their outdoor spaces for patients and families to enjoy.

The Webbs workers created a new garden vista for a bedroom at St Richard’s Hospice, with the help of Bransford Webbs Plant Company, and developed a herb garden as a project for the patients at Acorns Hospice to enjoy.

They also created herbaceous borders at Primrose Hospice, Bromsgrove, provided hanging baskets for the sensory garden and entrances at Mary Stevens Hospice, Stourbridge, and brightened up Kemp Hospice, Kidderminster, with planters and a raised vegetable plot.

The planting make-overs were part of the first national Garden Re-leaf Day.

As well as the hands-on projects, Webbs’ staff and customers have so far raised £1,500 as part of Garden Re-leaf initiatives for Greenfingers – the garden industry charity which creates magical gardens for children’s hospices.

Webbs chairman Ed Webb said: “It’s been a great day with Webbs staff working to brighten up the hospices so that patients, families, staff and volunteers can relax in and enjoy these lovely outdoor spaces.

“We worked with the hospices to find out exactly what they felt was the best way to achieve that and are very happy with the end results.”

St Richard’s fund-raising director Tricia Cavell said: “Our patients and families are thrilled with the new garden area that the Bransford Webbs and Webbs team created.

“It’s so lovely to have such an uplifting scene and a pleasure to have welcomed the staff here to the hospice.

“We are really grateful for all the planning, hard work and enthusiasm that they put into it, as well as all these beautiful plants.”
