A MAN broke a window after a row with his girlfriend over his ‘horseplay’ with her female friend.

Wayne Frankum, aged 20, of Lower Chase Road, Malvern, admitted criminal damage when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

The court heard how Frankum damaged the window of the door of his girlfriend’s house by repeatedly banging on it on Friday, March 9.

Dale Sheehan, prosecuting, said Frankum and his girlfriend had been in an on-off relationship for the last seven years. He had been drinking at the Foresters Arms from about 7pm with girlfriend Collette Franklin and her friend.

Mr Sheehan said the couple rowed and Frankum returned home.

Police advised him to stay away from Miss Franklin’s address for the rest of the day but he returned there at around 9.15pm.

He said: “He began banging loudly on the front door and shouting ‘Collette, I’m going to smash the window!’ Mr Frankum continued banging on the front door, culminating in a pane of glass smashing. He also pulled the gate off its hinges.”

Frankum was arrested and cautioned and had to go to A&E because of the wound to his hand where he had broken the glass.

Mr Sheehan said: “He was interviewed and he stated he had been drinking most of the afternoon and had a row with Miss Franklin and, in temper, punched the door causing the glass to break. He didn’t mean to break it but accepts he was reckless.”

Mark Sheward, defending, said: “There was some horseplay between Mr Frankum and his girlfriend’s friend. It was fairly innocent but didn’t go down too well with his girlfriend. That’s how the argument started. She said she didn’t agree with the way he had been behaving.

“He went home but was frustrated by the fact that his girlfriend was suggesting there was anything going on between him and her friend.”

Frankum was fined £110, ordered to pay £85 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and £50 compensation to Festival Housing, who own the damaged door.
