Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver is published in hardback by Hodder & Stoughton, priced £12.99. Available now.
US author Lauren Oliver has had an exciting couple of years. Her debut novel, Before I Fall, is being made into a film; and Delirium, about a futuristic world devoid of love, was a huge success. The second novel in a trilogy after Delirium comes Pandemonium.
Lena, a shy and slightly eccentric teenager, is on the run after escaping the clutches of the totalitarian rule of the Consortium.
She takes solace with a freedom-fighting group called the Invalids in the Wilds, an area outside the government's jurisdiction.
She deals with the grief of losing true love Alex in the previous book, while training as an insurgent to fight the government.
Oliver has taken a darker turn in this instalment and we see Lena change from a girl into a woman.
It's aimed at older teens, but Oliver writes in such a beautiful way, that it's hard to put the book down.
