TWO renowned actresses will step into the shoes of legendary rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford at the point of their 30-year feud reaching boiling point.

Anita Dobson, who was recently see in BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, teams up with Greta Scacchi to portray the off-screen lives the Hollywood divas as Anton Burge’s new production visits Malvern Theatres direct from London’s West End.

Davis and Crawford only worked together once, on the gothic horror What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, when their careers had hit rock bottom.

50 years on from the cult classic movie, the play follows the course of a single day of filming and runs from Monday to Saturday, April 16-21 in the Festival Theatre.

It chronicles the action of what happens to the two actresses as they prepare to face the cameras and, ultimately, each other and what goes on when the cameras stop.

Part monologue and part dialogue it deals with celebrity, ego, Hollywood’s attitude towards age and women and how superstars can be at once courageous and vulnerable as they weigh up the merits of art and stardom.

The audience finds itself privy to the women at their most intimate as they dress, apply make-up and discuss their lives, loves, losses and each other in a tale that continues to fascinate, not only for what went on in front of the camera, but also behind it.
