CONCERNED residents in the Nunnery area of Worcester have formed an action group in response to a proposed housing development near their homes.

People living in Kilbury Drive are worried that Bloor Homes’ plans for new houses and open space on land adjoining their street and Spetchley Road, near to Swinesherd Way, could add to existing problems such as traffic, flooding, access and the close proximity of the development to their gardens. Representatives from the building group and real estate service providers Savills were on hand to answer questions at the consultation event at Worcester Woods Countryside Centre in Wildwood Drive.

Elizabeth Rogers said: “All this is asking is, what type of house do you want to see? I don’t want any but we know they are going to build. It would be nice to be consulted properly. Some of us live on a limited income and our houses are all we have got, we can’t afford for them to be de-valued that much and they will be.”

Jackie Griffiths, aged 65, said: “It was refused on 17 points last time. It’s a waste of time really, why don’t they get it resolved and come back so we could vote on everything?”

Ron Clews, aged 66, said residents opposed the developer’s plans to pay for a new village hall for Whittington Village. “It’s a mile away. They should look at doing something to St Martin’s Parish Hall, it would be far more beneficial to a lot more people.”

Chris Shaw, planning manager of Bloor Homes Western, said the plans were in their very early stages but the feedback gained would help shape the design and layout of the scheme.

“We are talking about where they would like to see access coming from and what type of housing they would like to see.

“I am delighted with the number of people that have turned out and we will come back with another consultation before a planning application goes in. We have had a lot of points from the residents’ committee and that’s quite constructive.”

An earlier application for 257 homes was refused planning permission. Comments must be submitted to Bloor Homes at west@bloorhomes. com by Thursday, May 3.
