DON'T leave your hair loose and lacklustre this season.

With so many accessible trends to tap into, it's easy to give boring hair the brush-off with a few simple styling tweaks.

From mermaid-inspired wet looks to retro bouffant beehives, there's a look for every length and texture.

WET LOOK

With aquatic themes big on the catwalk, it's no wonder the look has extended to hair. Perfect for the holiday season, slicked-back locks are minimal and moody.

"Although wet hair is definitely a summer look, this is the opposite to that rough-textured 'beach' hair - it's tighter to the head and more dramatic," says Pantene Pro-V global ambassador Sam McKnight.

Aquatic-inspired hair was the order of the day at Chanel, featuring a boyish parting, low-key quiff and oversized pearls in the hair that looked like water droplets.

A combination of mousse, gel and a mask were used to keep it looking 'wet'.

"It was meant to look as if the girls had just run their fingers through wet hair," says McKnight. "This is a perfect example of how you can use treatment products to style the hair."

BEEHIVE STING

Hair has taken a retro turn - with a modern twist. Beehives on the catwalks looked intentionally mussed up, messy and volumised, as though you've been rolling around in a summer meadow.

At Fendi, the Fifties Dolce Vita mood prompted McKnight to create a bouffant look: "The inspiration was a 'mathematician gone mad', so I unravelled that prim and classic school teacher look."

Wear the back of your hair pinned up in a traditional beehive, or worn loose and captured in a low ponytail for loose 'undone' appeal.

Either way, they're big and beautiful and major backcombing is required. The look is best achieved on unwashed hair for a secure hold and grittier texture.

SHOW PONY

Grab your hairband - if there's one hair look that keeps bouncing back, it's the pony.

Perfect if you're looking for a low-key style that keeps your hair off your face.

"The ponytail is without a doubt a big look this season," says Akin Konizi, HOB Salons international creative director.

"Moving on from last winter where it was all about the mid-tail, this season is going to be focused on the pony at the nape of the neck."

This chic modernist look is at its peak with sleek, glossy hair so aim for straight, smooth locks before styling.

Konizi says: "Best worn simply polished, team the pony with a low side parting or opt for a more statement finish with all the hair brushed back from the face."

NO-FUSS DO

Feeling half-hearted about your hair? Don't panic, you're actually bang on trend!

Featured at Victoria Beckham's spring/summer 12 collection to balance out her uber-glam dresses, this no-fuss do is a nonchalant nod to uncomplicated freshness.

It's also commonly spotted on the Duchess of Cambridge, although much more 'done'.

"The perfect look to take you from beach to bar, this half-up, half-down style has taken a modern twist," says Konizi.

"Sporting straight layers, or bohemian beach waves? This style works whatever, so have your grips and serum at the ready."

Keep things youthful with an ethereal 'veil' of loose hair around the face to look floaty and natural as you're strolling in your sandals.
