THREE people from Worcester have walked away with crime prevention tips and prizes after entering a police competition.

They were honoured after attending West Mercia Police’s Love Your Home shop in CrownGate shopping centre, Worcester, which was open for one week only.

Brandon-James Gillies, aged seven, from Dines Green, won the colouring competition and received a set of colouring pencils donated by Ryman stationers.

12-year-old Ellie Cummings, of St John’s, designed the winning poster for the shop and was given a £25 Argos voucher for her efforts.

Sally Orme, of Lower Wick, was the lucky winner of a Kindle e-reader after being one of more than the 300 people who signed up to receive the force’s e-newsletters.

The store acted as a one-stop shop for people to get advice from officers on crime prevention, pick up a few crime-fighting freebies and learn about services such as property marking.

They were awarded their prizes by Inspector Janet Heritage, who leads local policing in Worcester, at the city’s Castle Street police station.

Insp Heritage said: “All three came along to the Love Your Home shop for some crime prevention advice to help them learn how to protect their homes and themselves.

“In doing so, they have not only picked up some useful tips but also benefited from entering the competitions we launched at the time.”
