A Worcester schoolgirl proved she had ‘curl power’ when she lopped off her locks to help other children.

Eight-year-old Cerys McCulloch, of Tolladine Road, had 15 inches shorn off her waist-length waves in support of the Little Princess Trust.

The trust provides real hair wigs for free to boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

About 100g of Cerys’ hair, which had measured nearly two feet from the top of her head, was cut at Umberto Giannini in Pump Street, Worcester, and will be used by the charity to make wigs.

The St Barnabas Primary School pupil – who has only had her hair cut short once before – has also raised £1,000 in donations to help the trust to assist more children in need.

Proud dad Ian said the whole family were delighted by the response to brave Cerys’ fund-raising challenge. He said: “100g was cut off Cerys’ hair and they only need 120g to make a full wig.

“Cerys has done really well. She’s actually really happy with her new haircut. We’re very proud of her.”
