A DRUG addict was jailed for three months after he stole perfume testers to fund his £10-a-day heroin habit.

Darren Pass had initially gone into Boots in Malvern Retail Park on Wednesday, April 25, to spray himself with fragrance because the address he was staying at smelled, Worcester Magistrates Court heard.

But while there, he stole four testers together worth £205, three of which he sold on for a total of £5.

Douglas Marshall, prosecuting, said the 42-year-old – who had been banned from the store – committed the offence less than a month after magistrates imposed a suspended sentence on him for other thefts.

Pass, of Hospital Bank, Malvern, admitted one charge of theft.

Angela Woolnough, defending, said the father of two had been a drug user for 20 years, starting with cannabis before moving on to heroin.

Ms Woolnough told the court that Pass often found himself homeless. He was jailed for 12 weeks – six weeks for the breach and six for the theft.
