ABOUT 100,000 visitors are expected to descend on the Three Counties Showground over the next four days for Malvern Spring Gardening Show.

Co-organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, the colourful extravaganza which opened today and runs until Sunday, has grown from a small regional flower show 26 years ago into a televised international occasion and will be featured on BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World tomorrow night.

Sharon Gilbert, the show’s press and PR manager, said: “The good thing about the show is that a lot is under cover. We also have good permanent roadways and walkways and have invested heavily over the winter months to improve these.

“We also have more than 10,000 square metres of permanent buildings and have improved the drainage throughout the site. Visitors can be assured of a great day out whatever the weather.”

According to Worcester News weather expert Paul Damari, after possible showers today, conditions will improve dramatically with lots of sunshine forecast from Friday through to Monday.

Once again, the centrepiece of the show is the stunning RHS Malvern Floral Marquee, where more than 100 of the UK’s top growers and horticulturalists will be exhibiting.

Another of the highlights is the inspirational show gardens section, where the 2012 exhibits include an interactive water garden, a peaceful public space and a wildlife haven.

Another “must see” is the urban oasis designed by celebrity gardener Chris Beardshaw, who grew up in Broadwas, near Worcester, which celebrates environmental regeneration charity Groundwork’s 30th birthday.

There are also hundreds of trade stands selling everything from a dibber to a ride-on rotovator and lots of clothing for all weather eventualities.
