Students at the Regents Theological College in Malvern will be performing a modern retelling of Chaucer’s classic Canterbury Tales.

The performance has been directed and scripted by 3rd year Performing Arts students at the college, as part of their assessment and they will be joined by other students for the performance.

To make the piece accessible, the students chose to base their script on Peter Ackroyd’s modern reworking of the tales. But, they will be using costumes and props based on medieval dress to help retain the spirit of Chaucer’s original work.

The students have chosen to host the performance outside in the grounds of the Elim Arts Centre to help recreate the experience of the group of pilgrims Chaucer wrote his stories about.

Oliver Ward, who helped write and direct the performance, said: “We’re very much looking forward to the performances, there are lots of different challenges to holding the production outside, but we’re hoping to give the audience a feeling of going on a pilgrimage by taking them on a journey with us around the grounds.”

Tickets cost £4, with matinee performances today and tomorrow.
