EIGHT poems by John Masefield will be transformed by song at an event in Hereford’s Shire Hall this weekend.

The Poems and Portraits in Song concert, which is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation, takes place on Saturday from 7.30pm.

The Wanderer by Ledbury composer John Frith will be performed for the first time since 2008’s Ledbury Poetry Festival by The Penyard Singers from Ross-on-Wye, members of Ledbury Community Choir and an orchestra of local musicians.

The other collection to be performed is The Canterbury Pilgrims by George Dyson.

Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions, £5 under 18) available online at www.penyardsingers.org.uk, from choir members, or by ringing 01989 770334 .
