A woman has condemned the intimidating antics of a group of “yobs” who went on the rampage.

Helen Donovan said she saw the group of about 12 to 15 men running around like a pack, ripping up planters on the Merstow Green in Evesham roundabout and lying in the path of oncoming traffic at about 8pm on Sunday.

Mrs Donovan said: “We had just come back from a nice evening walk and were coming past Merstow Green when a large group of men in their early twenties were chanting football songs and charging about on the road in a group.

“Then three of the yobs stood on top of the Merstow Green island planters and ripped the plants out, throwing them all over the road. They were racing around like a pack.

“Then they lay in the road all round the island stopping the cars going past.

“They were very intimidating, charging about chanting football songs, I just regret not taking more notice of which yobs were doing the damage, there were so many of them. We nearly turned around and walked away. It felt very intimidating.”

Mrs Donovan continued past the commotion and immediately headed to the nearby police station to alert officers.

“I ran down to the police station,” said Mrs Donovan. “Luckily a police car came past which I flagged down and then went up to where the idiots were.

“A second car joined him and they spoke to the group. They try and make the town nice and then idiots come along and ruin it.”

Police officers investigated the incident but found nothing on CCTV.

Evesham officer Phil Stayte said no one had been arrested in connection with the anti-social incident.
