A couple who first locked eyes across a crowded dance floor are celebrating 60 years of marriage .
Rose and Wyndham Edwards, aged 81 and 87, of Deacle Place, Bengeworth, near Evesham, first met at a dance in Norton when Rose was 18. The couple married three years later in a double wedding with Wyndham’s brother Albert – known as Chip – and his Irish bride Bridie, who, sadly, have both since died.
Wyndham started his working life down the mines, but later got into market gardening on Twyford Farm.
A few years later the couple moved to Bengeworth where they have been most of their married life. After having their three children, Patricia, Clifford and David, Rose worked at Wilmotts in Evesham.
Rose said that despite having their ups and downs – as couples do – the secret to their long and successful marriage was “to be happy”.
“When you have arguments make up and be happy,” she said. “We take life as it comes. If you have got your health and happiness what more do you want? I’ve had a very happy marriage and have three lovely children.”
They were marking their special day – Thursday, May 10 – with a party at their daughter’s house and with their five great-grandchildren and eight grandchildren helping them celebrate.
