POLICE would like to Warndon residents after they gave vital information which led to the arrest of a man on Sunday, May 6.

Officers were called to an address on Ambleside Drive after a man was seen entering the house of an elderly woman just after midnight.

The man was then caught by a neighbour as he was leaving the property, and officers arrived soon after to arrest him.

Detective Inspector Richard Rees from Worcester CID said: "We asked the community to be vigilant following a number of sneak-in burglaries in the Warndon area at the end of last month.

"Because of this, people were on the lookout for any suspicious activity in the neighbourhood and this led to them calling us to report a burglary on Ambleside Drive.

"We appreciate and encourage calls from members of the public when a crime is in progress and I would particularly like to thank the neighbour who stepped in to help on this occasion. However, we would never ask the public to put themselves at risk and advise them to leave it to the police to detain suspects.

Martin Lee Wallace, aged 26 of Pippen Field, Worcester, appeared before magistrates on Monday, May 7, charged with burglary. Wallace was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Worcester Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday, 15 May).
